I know that my latest posts all talk about food ( especially cakes, cupcakes and pies), but I have been absolutely in love with baking recently. Baking has always been my favorite thing to do. I love seeing people’s reaction when they taste one of my cakes, I love baking little sweets and treats for my friends and I also love taking pictures at what I make. Yes, recently I have been obsessed with taking good and professional pictures at my creations. I love setting up my worksurface, finding a good background and adding details to make the pictures look awesome. I know that I still have a long way to go before I’ll even start considering myself a professional photographer, but I’m getting there. Linda Lomelino is definetly my inspiration when it comes to taking good photos at food. She is absolutely amazing. I have talked about Linda in my Chocolate mascarpone cake with strawberries post, since it is her recipe. If you want to check her site out it’s called Call Me Cupcakes. I love it.
When I started this blog I had no idea on what I was actually going to talk about. I’m sure you’ve all noticed that my posts go from health and fitness to beauty and food. These are all topics that I really enjoy talking about. However, baking always had a special place in my heart. I’m not saying that from now on all my posts are going to be about cakes and sweets, but for now I’m really just trying to figure out what I want this blog to be really about. It’s a hot mess right? At least the name that I choose for this blog is super appropriate.
Like I said since I have really been into baking recently, here it is yet another post on sweets. Last week I made this oh so delicious Fruit tart with custard. This tart is super easy to make, especially if you have some left over short crust pastry from previous baking. Mine was a left over from the puff pastry that I made for easter. If you want to know the recipe for my short crust pastry click here : https://obsessedorhotmess.wordpress.com/2015/04/05/puff-pastry-with-ricotta-cheese-and-lemon-zest/ Now here are the ingredients I used to make the custard to fill the tart.
For the custard:
Take a cup of milk and set it aside. Pour the rest of the milk into a pan over medium heat. Add the vanillin and let cook. Take off the heat just before it starts to simmer and let it cool. In a bowl beat the egg yolks with the sugar and add the cooled milk little by little. Keep stirring until well combined. SIft in the mixture the flour and mix well. Pour the mixture into a pan and cook over medium heat until it simmers. Keep stirring during the process. When it starts to simmer take off the heat and keep stirring for two or three minutes until you have a creamy consistency. Add the cup of milk to the mixture and stir to combine.
When you have your short crust pastry and custard ready, you can assemble the fruit tart. Cut a few strawberries and bananas into slices and place them on top of your tart that you have previously filled with the custard. You can serve it immediately or store in the fridge.
I hope you guys love the recipe and the pictures!
